A man wanted on a parole violation fled deputies early Monday in Fort Collins and was found hiding behind a camper, flushed out by a police dog who bit the felon’s ankle.
Ashton Layne Hamilton, 24, is being held at the Larimer County jail on suspicion of numerous charges, including resisting arrest, DUI, driving on a suspended license, violation of a restraining order and parole violation, according to a Larimer County sheriff’s news release.
The incident unfolded at about 3 a.m., when a sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle at South College Avenue and East Skyway Drive, the release said. The driver jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving behind a passenger, whom police detained.
Deputies and officers began searching for the driver who fled.
At about 4 a.m. a canine team tracked the driver to the 6000 block of Mars Drive, where Hamilton was found hiding behind a camper parked in a driveway, the release said.
Hamilton was treated on scene by medical personnel for the dog bite and taken to jail, the sheriff’s office said.
The passenger in the vehicle was released.
