I applaud the editorial board’s stance on Initiative 300, the proposal to create a four-year pilot program for the social use of cannabis in Denver. As the owner of an edibles cannabis company, I know our customers are able to discreetly enjoy our products more easily than those who prefer vaping or smoking, but still many feel the need to partake in hiding. Consuming a legal product should not feel criminal. With Initiative 300 we have the opportunity to try a thoughtful and measured remedy.
Colorado’s cannabis industry now generates more than $1 billion in annual sales. It is a boon for tourism and tax revenues. Our state is the pioneer in this growing industry, and the passage of Initiative 300 will only further establish that leadership status. It is time to allow adults to gather in appropriate social settings and see how it works. Let’s pass Initiative 300.
