Kent Thiry and Blair Richardson are right: “We’re all better off when everyone has a voice in our elections.”
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Darryl Glenn is a reverse example of the value of Propositions 107 and 108, which would restore Colorado’s presidential primary and open primaries to unaffiliated voters. If unaffiliated voters had participated in the decision-making process, the electorate for the primary would have been more like the electorate for the general election and the Republicans might have ended up witha more competitive candidate.
It also seems reasonable to assume that candidates selected by a mix of unaffiliated voters and party members and then elected are more likely to work across the aisle. We’re all better off if unaffiliated voters participate in the primary election.
