Dan McCasky was officially named Lakewood police chief on Tuesday after serving in position on an interim basis for the last five months. McCasky stepped into the role when

McCasky, 54, has been with Lakewood police for 30 years and was previously the chief of the departmentap patrol division. He has also held leadership positions in the support services and investigations divisions.

“Dan is very personable and you can tell by interacting with him that he’s a caring person and has a

passion for the department,” said Kathy Hodgson, Lakewood city manager.

Hodgson, who has also worked with Lakewood for 30 years, said the nationwide search was done to prevent any bias, but that even with candidates from all over the country, McCasky stood out as the best choice.

“Today is one of the best days of my career. I have such confidence that I selected the right guy,” she said. “He’s just ready for the job.”

McCasky becomes the eighth police chief in the city’s history since it incorporated in 1969. He previously served with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office before coming to Lakewood.

“I know I’m biased, but I think this is one of the greatest police organizations. We have a rich tradition of developing chiefs and being selected to be part of that is a tremendous honor,” McCasky said. “Thirty years ago, I never thought I would have this chance, but this organization has allowed me to grow. I’m excited to give back.”
