Castle Rock is cooking up Halloween fun for people of all ages — and levels of intestinal fortitude — this year and is inviting residents to come and revel in the spookiness at a variety of upcoming events.
Looking for a good scare? Friday and Saturday mark the last two nights that Castle Rock Fire and Rescue will host its annual haunted house. Staged in the department’s fire training tower, 303 Malibu St., from 7 to 10 p.m. , this haunted house “is a small-town horrifying event that rivals anything found in the south-metro area,” according to the town.
Castle Rock Fire is so confident in the house’s frights, children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $10 cash at the door. Proceeds will go to the Castle Rock Fire and Castle Rock Police Department .
For those not so interested in screaming, the Miller Activity Complex will be hosting the town’s 2016 on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Located at 1375 W. Plum Creek Parkway, the MAC will be full of family fun during the event, including a bounce house, face painting, games and the old Halloween standby: candy. The Spooktacular is free. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume.
Finally, on Monday — All Hallow’s Eve itself — the town will host its annual Trick or Treat Street celebration in downtown Castle Rock. Organized in conjunction with the , kids are encouraged to trick-or-treat at participating downtown businesses. Festival Park, 199 Perry St., will have a bounce house, pony rides, barrel train and a pumpkin patch. Other highlights include a costume contest at the pavilion at Fifth and Perry streets and arts and crafts at the fire department headquarters building, 300 Perry St.
The costume contest gets underway at 2:15 p.m. for the kids under 2 years old division, and continues until 4:30 p.m. when group costume contestants will check in.Preregistration is recommended and can be done by visiting or calling 303-660-1345.
Parking will be limited in the downtown area. Monday visitors are encouraged to park at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 500 Fairgrounds Dr. A free trolley will then take visitors downtown.
