Re: Oct. 26 opinion poll.

Are Chief Wahoo’s name and image offensive? A better question might be how do you feel when you encounter it? For myself I see a positive, historical image that seems to recognize a people who have been engaged with our nation since its birth. The history has been tragic at times, but we continue to try to get it right.  Others may shun the image through embarrassment or shame for that history. That too is understandable. I submit that our reactions have nothing to do with the icon itself but with our feelings. The only group with veto power over the image should be the people represented, and if they’re generally fine with it, then the matter is closed. We need to quit imposing our guilt and let them decide.
