Re: Oct. 26 editorial.
The Denver Postap attack against Amendment 71 misses the mark by a mile. The need to protect our constitution is an ideal valued by citizens across the state — not only the oil and gas industry, which has repeatedly been targeted for destruction by extremist out-of-state environmental groups. It is rural communities whose water rights have been repeatedly attacked by out-of-state interests who want more of Colorado’s water. It is LGBT citizens who were attacked in 1992 by forces seeking to end protections against discrimination. It is citizens who believe our constitution deserves to be treated with more respect. With Amendment 71, nothing changes with how citizens can change state law. But it does hold the constitution to a higher standard. Valuing that has nothing to do with oil and gas.

The Denver Postap editorial highlights one specific industry’s contributions to Amendment 71, but fails to disclose all the other supporters who have contributed time and money to the campaign. The secretary of state already shares all the campaign finance information for Coloradans to see. Other contributors include members of the agricultural community, health care organizations, AARP, business leaders, chambers of commerce and many individuals across the state. Each of these groups have their own reasons for supporting Amendment 71. I, for one, am voting for Amendment 71 because I’m tired of seeing our state’s constitution attacked by out-of-state special interests. Join me in saying “yes to 71.”
