Big backups on southbound I-25 near Yale Ave. after fuel spill, lane closures

Backups continue on southbound Interstate 25 on Monday even after four lanes shut down near Yale Avenue because of a fuel spill were reopened.

Officials say they have moved cleanup efforts onto the interstate’s shoulder. The Denver Fire Department said there was no timeline for when the response, which began about 11 a.m., would be complete.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says there are “extensive” delays in the area and traffic cameras were showing long lines of vehicles backed up on the interstate.

“Please avoid the area during cleanup,” the fire department said in a tweet.

about 30 gallons of fuel spilled onto the interstate after a semi-trailer hit metal on the roadway. No injuries were reported.
