Students from Martin Luther King High School walk back to school on Nov. 9 after joining students from Denver's Noel Community Arts School to protest Donald Trump's electionRe: Nov. 21 letter to the editor.
Letter-writer Bobby Smith’s claim that our educational system is dividing our country by urging students to protest is inaccurate and outlandish. First of all, one of the benefits of our democracy is the right to peaceful protest. There would be no woman’s right to vote, civil rights, or an end to the needless Vietnam War without protests. Did Smith forget that our country was founded by pilgrims protesting England’s taxation policies? Protesting Donald Trump’s election is actually a sane thing to do, given his very radical and racial comments during the election.
