Kevin Raleigh, right, outreach team leader with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, talks to Skye Vehr on Nov. 22, 2016, along South Broadway as he makes sure she is prepared for the coming cold, offering socks, hats and blankets, and talking to her about shelters.Re: Nov. 27 news story.
From your article about Gov. John Hickenlooper’s plan for state spending on homelessness:
“Soon after being elected mayor in 2003, Hickenlooper created a commission to study the issue and embraced a 10-year plan to end homelessness.”
“Colorado saw a 6 percent increase in homelessness in 2016, which ranks as the seventh-largest in the nation … ”
” ‘I’m doubling down,’ Hickenlooper said.”
This is a prime example of why failed government programs continue to grow. Perhaps it is time to admit that government is particularly inept at compassion.
