The cyclist killed in a crash with a semitrailer in Boulder on Wednesday night entered the crosswalk at 28th Street and Arapahoe Avenue after the truck already had started making its turn in front of him, police said on Thursday.

The cyclist — who has been identified as Dum Gurung, 65, of Boulder — was hit while crossing Arapahoe at 28th around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Boulder police spokeswoman Shannon Cordingly said the semi, which a witness described as a King Soopers truck, was traveling north on 28th when it made a right turn onto eastbound Arapahoe.

The truck already was partially through the intersection when Gurung — riding north on the sidewalk along 28th — entered the intersection and hit the side of the truck before being pulled under the trailer’s rear tires.
