Interview with Mia Peterson, owner and partner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
:My business partner, Michael Bruntz, and I bought the business from the former owner of Aqua Lounge. He and I have been friends for decades and have enjoyed Mozart’s Lounge dating back to the 1990s. We tried to purchase Mozart’s several times in the past and this time we did.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Mozart’s Lounge has long been a Mayfair neighborhood favorite. Its origin dates back to the 1950s when it moved from downtown to Mayfair. About eight years ago, it was a piano bar, and for the past six years, it’s been Aqua Lounge. We believe in neighborhood and community, and providing a fun, comfortable space for neighbors and friends. We’re restoring the original Mozart’s Lounge neon sign — a beloved landmark — and bringing back a familiar favorite. Mozart’s has daily happy hours, offers simple food, plentiful drinks at good prices and welcomes all. We host several dart leagues, love the Denver Broncos, have trivia every Thursday night, have live music featuring the sounds of jazz and old-time rock ‘n’ roll, offer laughs with comedy shows and host private events and parties.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The people. Bars are about people and everything we can learn from humanity. We have people from all walks of life come in, and we have a staff who shares our service standard.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
:Re-branding and raising awareness with our surrounding neighbors that Mozart’s is back. Our grand opening was Nov. 19 when we unveiled our restored sign and celebrated with our neighbors, loyal customers, families and friends.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
:Mozart’s Lounge was incorporated in 1955 and has since been a continual tavern in operation, though with different business names and owners. We’re proud to take over this business and welcome all of our neighbors and friends.
