A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder of her ex-husband in La Junta.

Melissa Marie Kirkpatrick was taken into custody on Monday in Walsenburg, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. She is suspected of killing her ex-husband, 51-year-old Timothy Kirkpatrick, in September.

Kirkpatrick died on Sept. 16 at the La Junta home he shared with Melissa Kirkpatrick. He was found by La Junta and Otero County officers聽who were called to the home and found him unresponsive.

Further details on the case were not immediately released.

Melissa Kirkpatrick is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
