Along with The Denver Post, I applaud Sen. Cory Gardner for his work across the aisle to produce the Outdoor Recreation Jobs and Economic Impact Act of 2016, and for his efforts to get it to President Obama’s desk.
But we must go beyond protecting our outdoor lands from the development as mentioned in your editorial. We must protect the entire outdoor industry from the results of climate change, which will cause the inevitable decline of that industry — so important to Coloradans.
It is almost universally believed that the change in our climate is due in large part to the burning of fossil fuels. The rate at which these are burned must be rapidly reduced.
Most economists around the world believe the best way to do this is by implementing a revenue-neutral carbon tax. This is a policy that reduces CO2 emissions without being a drag on the economy. I ask that the senator consider this possibility.
