Colorado Springs police arrested an 18-year-old driver for vehicular assault, and drunken driving after an abandoned vehicle ran into a tree and boulder on Gold Camp Road early Sunday.

Speed and alcohol are likely causes of the accident, police said.

The accident happened at 1:52 a.m., said acting Sgt. Jason Newton.

While officers were conducting their investigation, they found out that two occupants of the vehicle had checked into a hospital saying they had been involved in an accident on Gold Camp Road.

One person was injured seriously in the accident.

Police later arrested Travis Kramer, the driver of the vehicle, Newton said. He faces a vehicular assault charge because “he was driving and someone was hurt.”

During the investigation, Gold Camp Road was closed in both directions at the 2800 block. It has since reopened in both directions.
