Airlines have canceled more than 300 flights at the Denver International Airport as of Saturday morning following 8 inches of snow overnight, more than double what had been forecast.

“Both the airport and the airlines were not expecting so much snow so it threw a curveball in operations,” DIA spokesman Heath Montgomery said.

Although the runways are open, Montgomery said many airlines have reset their schedules and travelers are advised to check their flights for potential delays or cancellations. Of the 1,500 flights that go through Denver a day, 20 percent have been canceled.

The airport added more staff last night and has been working to clear the roadways but Montgomery still advised travelers to give themselves extra time. Roadways, especially Peña Boulevard, are slick in areas.
