Brock Osweiler is headed to the bench.
The former Broncos second-round pick was demoted as the Texans’ starting quarterback as Tom Savage was named the team’s starter for Saturday against the Bengals.
“Feel like Tom Savage gives us the best chance to win. We will see what he can do for us Saturday against the Bengals,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Monday.
Osweiler was benched early Sunday after throwing interceptions on each of Houston’s first two offensive drives. Down 13-0, Savage came in and led Houston to a 21-20 win over Jacksonville.
Osweiler, 26, has struggled in his first full season as a starter. He is second in the NFL for most interceptions thrown (16), and is 23rd in touchdown passes (14), 26th in passing yards (2,704) and 27th in completion percentage (59.6 percent) among QBs with 200-plus passing attempts.
