With their playoff hopes dimming, the Broncos can’t afford many injury setbacks headed into their final two games. They received good news Monday on defensive end , who sustained a sprained neck Sunday.
“He’s going to be fine. I’d say he’s day-to-day,” Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said. “(It’s) something he’s been dealing with for the last couple months.”
Wolfe left Sunday’s game in the second quarter and did not return. He compared the injury to a “really bad stinger” where he could feel pain in his inflamed neck and shoulder. He said he plans on playing at Kansas City on Sunday.
On offense, tight ends and A.J. Derby are both in the concussion protocol after sustaining blows Sunday.
Green left Sunday’s game after a first quarter hit and was diagnosed with a concussion shortly afterward. Derby’s symptoms were realized in the game’s aftermath.
The Broncos face the possibility of being down to one healthy tight end, , if Green and Derby can’t clear the concussion protocol by Sunday. Heuerman is coming off his best game as a Bronco with two catches for 40 yards.
Denver has two practice squad tight ends, Henry Krieger-Coble and Steven Scheu, who could be called up for this week if necessary.
RB swap. Devontae Booker wasn’t the starting running back for the first time since went on injured reserve. Veteran Justin Forsett got the start Sunday and played 55 percent of the snaps. Booker got the other snaps.
The trend will likely continue for the next two weeks.
“I liked watching him practice last week and he took a little bit off of Booker’s plate,” Kubiak said about the swap. “We’re still going to play them both.”
