Broncos safety T.J. Ward missed practice Wednesday as he was a late addition to the concussion protocol.

Ward played all but two defensive snaps vs. the Patriots on Sunday. He also did postgame interviews, but head coach Gary Kubiak explained the symptoms came afterward.

“He came in after the game, wasn’t feeling good,” Kubiak said Wednesday. “He’s doing pretty good, he’s in the testing phase right now.”

If Ward is unable to clear the protocol by Sunday, rookies Will Parks and Justin Simmons would fill in.

Kubiak gave several of his veterans non-injury related rest days Wednesday including receivers Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas, cornerbacks Chris Harris and Aqib Talib, outside linebacker Von Miller, safety Darian Stewart, center Matt Paradis and left tackle Russell Okung.

C.J. Anderson update. Broncos running back C.J. Anderson had been holding out hope to return from a torn meniscus, which has kept him out of action since late October. Kubiak said Wednesday that it’s unlikely Anderson will return this season.

Anderson was placed on injured reserve shortly after after injuring his right knee Oct. 24 against Houston. He finished the game despite the injury and would be eligible to return this week if he was healthy.

“I had a good sitdown with C.J. yesterday. He’s doing pretty good. The plan is for him to maybe start running in the next two weeks,” Kubiak said. “I’d say he’s probably on course (to return) sometime in February.”

Anderson had 437 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 110 carries this season. He’s expected to return to full health for next season.

“When you sit down with C.J., you don’t talk much. You just listen,” Kubiak joked. “I’m really excited for him and his future. We miss him. He knows that. It’s been really hard on him. C.J.’s a good kid. Sometimes when you have to sit back and watch you realize how special playing is for you. That’s what happening for him.”
