The Broncos signed 11 players to future contracts Friday, including fifth-year running back and rookie long snapper Jeff Overbaugh. The nine other players were on the Broncos’ practice squad at season’s end.
Pierce, a 6-foot, 222-pound back out of Temple, was selected by the Ravens in the third round (No. 84) of the 2012 draft. He played in 52 regular-seasons games with Baltimore (2012-14) and Jacksonville (2015) and most recently played for the Jets in the 2016 preseason before being placed on injured reserve (hamstring). In his career, he’s totaled 359 carries for 1,345 yards and five touchdowns, plus 32 catches for 171 yards.
Overbaugh tried out for the Broncos in November before the team signed Thomas Gafford as a replacement for Casey Kreiter. Kreiter, who signed a one-year contract with the Broncos last April, suffered a calf injury and was later placed on injured reserve.
Overbaugh signed with the Rams as a college free agent out of San Diego State and spent the 2016 preseason with the team.
Future contracts are added to the roster when the 2017 season officially opens, on March 9.
