Once more, thanks to good reporting by Chris Osher of The Denver Post, we find $44 million of taxpayers’ monies wasted by the Department of Corrections.
The people who were supposed to get the sex-offender program before release have not received it. Prison doctors haven’t entered information properly or promptly into computers. An audit said there were “massive inefficiencies.” Prison officials cannot even get the right people to do it even though they concede it is their obligation to do it.
What good is it for our legislators to pass laws that are not carried out? Our prisons are a mess and I don’t imagine that they are getting better. If legislators make laws that they know are not carried out, they why have them and pay their salaries?
