The Bear Truth, a student-run newspaper at Palmer Ridge High School in Colorado Springs, recently endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.

Re: “” Dec. 18 Chuck Plunkett column.

I’ve been one of your devoted readers for years and proudly profess the delight in waking up in the morning with a cup of coffee and the morning paper. Call me old fashioned, a traditionalist, maybe even digital-adverse, but having the paper in hand, leisurely perusing the pages, and catching up on the latest without a computer screen (which I am in front of professionally eight-plus hours a day) is a pleasure.

I realize this privilege of a newspaper in hand is becoming a luxury that is increasingly difficult to provide at reasonable cost, having experienced dramatic subscription increases over recent years. I agree with Mr. Plunkett that supporting newsrooms, like at The Denver Post, is essential as a cornerstone of our democracy and for all the other critical reasons he points out in his commentary.

I only ask to keep the subscription costs within reason for the dwindling loyalists who currently support the enterprise. I’m down from receiving the paper every day to four days a week with the ultimate hope of not losing my morning ritual any time soon. Funny how costs may drive those like me to digital versions eventually, despite our natural inclination to resist. Of course many speak to the inevitability of print newspapers going by the wayside altogether. I do hope they’re wrong. That would be a loss for many of us true believers.
