So the Federal government is recommending that Connect for Health Colorado repay $9.7 million that have been misspent. I’m confused. Where is the state going to get these dollars? Certainly not from the individuals responsible for these errors, especially when it comes to bonuses.
The truth is that no one individual or department is ever held accountable. No one gets fired or disciplined or is forced to pay back any money. The auditors indicated that the problems “were caused by a lack of adequate stewardship of federal funds,”
In the end, we just go back to the taxpayers for more money. Paying it back is just adding more expense to an already bad situation. Think VA, military spending, frivolous grants and spending, etc. “Adequate stewardship” sounds good, but until people realize they are stealing from taxpayers, and are held accountable, nothing will change.
