Firefighter has minor injuries after Arvada blaze consumes homes

An Arvada firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries Monday morning after being hurt battling a blaze that consumed several homes.

The fire happened about 5 a.m. near the intersection of West 85th Drive and Quaker Court, according to the Arvada Fire Protection District. No other injuries were reported and officials said the firefighter would be released from medical care later Monday.

Fire crews used a defensive strategy to extinguish the blaze, which was fueled by strong winds.

Photos from the scene showed at least two homes with heavy damage.  reports the fire started in a duplex in a new housing development.

Authorities did not immediately say what caused the fire.
