Tamara Yakabosky discovered on Sunday these two large swastikas in the snow from the pavilion overlooking the lake at Glenmere Park.

Residents of the Greeley neighborhood around Glenmere Park were angry, puzzled and heartbroken Sunday when they discovered two roughly 10-foot-by-10-foot swastikas dug in the snow on the lake at Glenmere Park.

It appears the symbols were made by a single person, who made them from shuffling across the lake, which is only a few blocks away from Beth Israel Congregation Synagogue, 1625 Reservoir Road in Greeley.

Greeley police Lt. David Spies said there is no indication to believe the symbols were drawn as a threat to the synagogue. He explained that though the departmentap neighborhood action team was notified, it is unlikely a perpetrator will be found.

Because the symbols were made on the lake — which even has a “Caution Thin Ice” sign feet from where the footprints lead to the lake — it would be dangerous to attempt to cover them up, Spies said. He said the area has a history of people falling through the ice.

Spies encourages anyone who sees suspicious activity to call the police immediately.
