Denver’s Martin Luther King Jr. Marade kicks off Monday in City Park with a speaker’s program at 9:30 a.m., with the parade itself heading toward downtown beginning at 10:45 a.m.
The parade will , turn west to state Capitol grounds before heading south on Broadway to 14th Avenue. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. program immediately follows the Marade in Civic Center Park’s Greek theater.
The Marade is held every January in Denver to commemorate the late civil rights leader and has , attracting around 30,000 people. The city began the tradition in 1986, after then-State Rep. Wilma Webb successfully ran a bill declaring King’s birthday a holiday in Colorado.

“The annual celebration of Dr. King’s life in Denver has become a beacon of hope every year in our community, shining a bright light on the inclusive and welcoming city that we strive to be every day,” Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said. “Denver will only continue to prevail if we come together and remain committed to a better, more unified union as one.”
For early birds, Hancock and others will serve hot beverages and breakfast snacks at City Park starting at 8:30 a.m.
The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of snow Monday morning. Then by early afternoon, it will turn partly sunny with a high around 40 degrees.
