Interview with Courtney Gregory and Diandra Dallagiacoma, owners

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
:Each of us began working with flowers shortly after high school. We loved making art with flowers and doing so to make people feel good. We met each other around 2012 when we began helping out at this very flower shop during holidays and other busy times. We loved the shop and the location, and adored the previous owners, Patty Wood and Jennifer Graham. When they were ready to sell the business last year, it was a very natural fit for us to step in.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
:What makes us stand out is our passion for the material we work with. We love to carry plants and flowers that our customers may not have seen before. Hopefully, when you come into our shop, you leave having learned a little something new. We adore what we do and love to spread that joy to everyone who comes in.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
:We love to create art that has a purpose. Most of the time, we are designing for important events in someone’s life — birthdays, weddings, new babies, funerals. It means a lot to us to be there for those moments and to build relationships with people as we create something meaningful for them.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
:Like just about any retail environment, it’s hard to predict when it’s going to be especially busy. There are the obvious times, like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, but sometimes we will have a week that is much busier with birthdays or anniversaries. It can be tough to plan for those times, but it keeps us on our toes.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
:People might be surprised to hear the range of things we can do for them — many customers think that we only do flower arrangements that are ordered ahead, but you can stop in any time and get a single flower or a huge custom-made bouquet. You can come look for a greeting card or hostess gift or special order a certain variety of plants or cut flower. We can do weekly flower deliveries for businesses or individuals, too. We love to tell our customers yes, so if you have any questions or ideas, just ask us and we will do our best to make it happen. It might surprise people to know that we are not affiliated with Teleflora, FTD or other wire services — a lot of people think that flower shops have to be a part of those networks in order to be successful, but this shop has always gotten by with just the support of the local community, which we love.
