Colorado’s state-owned bus system will offer round-trip service to six mountain resorts on two Saturdays this February as part of a pilot program to test the viability and interest in a ski-and-snowboard-focused express bus service.

Departing from the Federal Center Park-n-Ride in Lakewood, the SnowStang will serve A-Basin, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail and Winter Park. Round-trip tickets for the Feb. 11 and 25 test runs start at $45.

“SnowStang goes directly to each resort plus our drivers have the ability to access the shoulder for bypassing eastbound traffic congestion,” CDOT transit and rail director Mark Imhoff said in a statement. “Daytrippers taking SnowStang won’t have to stress about driving or parking.  Instead they’ll arrive ready to hit the slopes and know they’ll have a safe ride home at the end of the day.”

The express buses will leave Lakewood between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. arrival at each of the six ski resorts. Return trips to Lakewood will depart the resorts at 3:30 p.m.

If the February pilot program is successful, CDOT said it would look at fully implementing the SnowStang service next winter.

Bustang also offers daily coach service along Interstate 70 between Glenwood Springs and Denver and along Interstate 25 between Fort Collins and Colorado Springs.
