It seems every NFL draftnik has the Broncos taking Wisconsin offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk in the first round. I would prefer a thump-and-cover inside linebacker, another cornerback in case Aqib Talib acts up, or my personal favorite, Alabama tight end O.J. Howard.
-Brandon, Fort Collins
Kiz: I like the way you think! Only a knucklehead drafts for need in the first round. Draft in the first round for impact. Howard could indeed make an impact for the Broncos in the red zone. But if Denver wants more touchdowns, is there a player in the draft that can score in more ways than Christian McCaffrey, the pride of Stanford and Valor Christian High School?
Why has the development of the Nuggets’ point guard been so poor?
-Marvin, Aurora
Kiz: Perhaps we all got a wee bit carried away with the Emmanuel Mudiay hype. For all his obvious gifts, Mudiay’s defensive instincts are poor, his jumper is clunky and his finishing moves lack the explosion of an elite NBA player. If the Nuggets want to make the playoffs, they need more Jameer Nelson at point guard and less Mudiay. Nelson is a journeyman, but also a vet with the poise and savvy to guide a young team during the fourth quarter of tight games.
You wrote a column on NFL greed that should be republished in every NFL city, and every city that would like to have an NFL team. When I was living in Los Angeles, I remember Raiders owner Al Davis scamming fans in Oakland and L.A. to build a new stadium. There was Robert Irsay moving the Colts from Baltimore to Indianapolis in the dark of night. There was Georgia Frontiere moving the Rams from L.A. to St. Louis, only to see the Rams move back to California 20 years later.
-David, Denver
Kiz: You can’t keep track of all the carpetbagging by NFL owners without a scorecard and Google maps.
I agree with your analysis of the deteriorating Matt Duchene “situation.” Suppose the Avs are fortunate to get a front-line defenseman in trade for Duchene. Why would our new defenseman be any happier in Colorado than Duchene currently is? Won’t this turn into another “situation” after a couple more losing seasons?
-Ron, icy hot
Kiz: Duchene is the lucky one. He can get out. Here’s the bad situation: We are going to be stuck with goalie Semyon Varlamov. After season-ending surgery on his hip, there’s no way Las Vegas will be crazy enough to take the millions of dollars remaining on Varly’s contract in the NHL expansion draft. I’m afraid Colorado is going to have to pay Varlamov to go away.
And today’s parting shot compares the Kiz to the Donald, all because we here at Kickin’ It Headquarters believe Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is playing like an all-star.
I thought listening to president Donald Trump was the most asinine thing imaginable, but I think your column promoting Jokic as an all-star wins.
