Sierra Completions, a Colorado Springs-based unit of aerospace and aviation giant Sierra Nevada Corp., has won a repair-station license from the Federal Aviation Administration, allowing the company to begin turning widebody aircraft into flying offices.
Sierra built a 30,000-square-foot hangar in 2015 and is leasing a former air-freight terminal on an adjacent site until construction is completed on its $100 million Colorado Aerospace Park, according to a 2015 company news release. It expects to employ 150 people, growing to 2,100 over five years when its business park is completed.
Sierra Nevada announced plans on Friday to lease a 60,000-square-foot, $11 million hangar that will be built by Cutter Aviation on the site of the Colorado Springs Airport’s former passenger terminal. It will house maintenance and alterations work for military and civilian aircraft.
