A series of chain-reaction crashes involving up to 16 vehicles on South Parker Road caused at least two injuries and is jamming traffic during the Friday morning commute.

The Colorado State Patrol is recommending that people take alternative routes.

“It’s a mess out there,” said Trooper Josh Lewis, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol. “Ultimately, it was a chain-reaction crash.”

Clean up is going to take quite a while, said Amy Ford, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

“Conditions are hazardous and drivers need to be very cautious,” Ford said.

Troopers are diverting traffic around the wreck, sending them onto eastbound Belleview, then south on Chambers Road and back to Chambers.

Soon after troopers began the detour, they reported a crash in the southbound lanes of Chambers.

“Please slow down,” CSP wrote on Twitter. “Roads are still icy.”
