At about 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Colorado Springs police officers responded to the 6300 block of La Plata Peak Drive on a report of “multiple shots fired.”
Responding officers were told that a pickup had been fired at and that the truck had left the scene. The pickup was found a short time later in the 6100 block of Barnes Road — about two miles away — police said.
Officer approached the truck and found two men — one fatally shot and the other wounded — inside. The wounded man was taken to a hospital.
Colorado Springs police on Tuesday identified the slain man as 28-year-old Manuel L. Vigil. He died of a gunshot wound in what has been ruled a homicide.
Police have not said what prompted in the shooting, which happened in a residential neighborhood in the city’s northeast corner. Authorities say there is no immediate danger to the public.
Vigil’s death is the sixth homicide of 2017. Last year at this time, police say there were no homicides in Colorado Springs.
