After two hours of testimony from the defendant and about an hour of closing arguments from attorneys, a Weld County jury about 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon found a former Ault police officer not guilty of vehicular homicide in connection with a .
after he was involved in a crash with Esteban Moreno, 38, on June 1 on U.S. 85 just north of Platteville. Witnesses told police they saw Jackson’s green Subaru and Moreno’s black Ford pickup sparring and “playing leapfrog” as they sped south on U.S. 85 at estimated speeds of up to 80 mph. They later described seeing the collision between Moreno’s truck and Jackson’s car, which caused the truck to roll off the highway into a nearby field, leaving Moreno dead.
After about an hour and a half of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty in the case.
