An injured UTV rider was rescued Friday from a rocky embankment in Colorado’s mountains after losing control of the side-by-side vehicle, according to Grand County officials.
Grand County Search and Rescue crews responded to the crash near Hot Sulphur Springs shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the agency. The rider lost control of the UTV and fell roughly 250 feet down a steep embankment, agency officials said.
Crews from the search and rescue agency, Grand County Emergency Medical Services, Union Pacific Railroad, Hot Sulphur Springs Fire and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office were all on scene, officials said. First responders used several rope systems to lower equipment, medical supplies and rescuers down to the injured rider, and to lift the rider back up to the trail, according to Grand County Search and Rescue.
The search and rescue agency said all riders should know their limits, ride at a speed suitable to the terrain and wear a helmet and seatbelt.
