Letter-writer Mike Wolford claims that it doesn’t matter that he thinks Donald Trump is a buffoon, inappropriate and crass; he voted for him anyway. Unfortunately, it does matter. President Trump has already alienated Mexico, Australia and much of Europe. His ill-conceived travel ban has been a fiasco.
Wolford somehow thinks Trump is going to provide good working-class jobs, when Trump’s economic plans include steep tax cuts for the rich, and eliminating most of the Dodd-Frank act. Wolford also asserts that government rarely does anything well, when we know that Medicare and Medicaid have helped a great number of people. Is the answer to be, no safety net at all?
Wolford sees Trump as anti-establishment, when Trump went to good schools his whole life, and certainly benefited from bankruptcy laws, as well as other programs initiated by local or state governments.
What you say and what you do does matter, and how one acts is a reflection of one’s character. To believe otherwise is to ignore reality.

Mike Wolford nailed it. His point is that a voter doesn’t have to like the person they vote for, or even agree with everything they stand for. We are in need of political leaders who will say what they mean and do what they say, not cower in the shadows of public opinion, unwilling to offend anyone. We have serious problems that need to be solved and leaders (for the most part) who only care about percentage points in polls and getting re-elected.
