Re: “” Feb. 11 Fred Hof column.
I grieve for the people of Syria, as I have for the past several years. I also grieve for the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, South Sudan and other war zones. I include in this grieving our U.S. military, which draws primarily from the poor and working class of our society. They are the ones who are acutely aware of our country’s decisions to go to war and to stay at war for years. Those whoadvocate for war most often benefit financially and rarely pay the cost.
If Fred Hof is calling for boots on the ground, let him and his loved ones be the first off the plane in their combat uniforms. Let there be war only if Eric, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. are on the front lines, and then Barron when he turns 18. Have the people write the military induction laws so that the U.S.A. only goes to war when the Congress calls on their own children to be the casualties of an IED. Perhaps then they will make the decision to do what they can to help refugees, and to stop profiting from selling arms to whomever has the money to buy them.
