A sad tale of puffing. A resident in the 2600 block of Gray Street, Wheat Ridge, reported her car as stolen on Feb. 3 when she saw a stranger driving it out of the neighborhood. The resident had started her vehicle, left it running with the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked, then went back in her house where, moments later, she saw it being driven away.

Early morning burglary. At 6 in the morning Feb. 7 someone broke into Apex Auto, 9491 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, stole a safe and jumped into a customer’s vehicle parked inside the business. The suspect drove the car through the bay doors and then through the gated entry of the complex. The stolen vehicle was later found at a Taco Bell.

Catch me if you can. A Wheat Ridge officer at Red Lobster, 4455 Wadsworth Blvd., noticed a vehicle with a misused temporary tag in the parking lot. When the officer tried to contact the person inside the car, they reversed into his patrol car and sped away from the restaurant.

Not so smooth criminal. The American Motel,10101 West I-70 Frontage Road North, contacted Wheat Ridge police on Feb. 2 to report a suspicious person at the business.
