Unseasonably warm, severely dry, windy weather prompted various metro-area counties and cities to declare open burn bans and fire restrictions.

Adams, Arapahoe, , Douglas and Jefferson were among counties that declared fire restrictions as fire crews battled wildfires along the Front Range the past several days.

Castle Rock, Lafayette and were among cities to enact burn and fire restrictions.

Meanwhile, a National Weather Service “red flag” warning about elevated fire danger for widespread areas of Colorado is expired at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Cities that were under the red flag warning included Akron, Castle Rock, Canon City, Colorado Springs, Denver, Fort Collins, Fort Morgan, Greeley, La Junta, Limon, Ordway, Pueblo and Sterling.

Jefferson County had initiated fire restrictions for certain unincorporated areas starting Feb. 16.
