Interview with Dana Hood Owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I have been teaching Nia, a mind-body cardio movement class that combines dance, martial arts and yoga energy, for more than eight years. Teaching at small studios and gyms, I began to desire a studio of my own to grow Nia. Every detail of iBODY has come from years of dreaming of the ideal space for movement and community.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Most studios cater to specific modalities such as just Yoga, dance or martial arts. We have a beautiful, eclectic mix of classes that are mind-body-emotion-spirit oriented. Many of the classes that are popular at iBODY are classes that people have never heard of like Nia, Feldenkrais, Essentrics, Kundalini, Yoga Trance Dance, JourneyDance and Betty Hoops. The studio is community-driven and there is a deep sense of connection, absolutely no judgment, all sizes and ages – and the cleanest studio you will ever experience.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
:I am moved by guiding people into holistic fitness. In a world of no pain no gain mentality where people drop their bodies off at a gym and exercise in a way to fight and control their bodies, it is rewarding to offer a different way. A way of fun and pleasure, where they move to become stronger from the inside out. The results still happen, but they are a byproduct of people experiencing movement and fitness in a way that comes from loving their workout and their bodies.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The modalities we offer are not mainstream household names, my opportunity is to change that.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I am a serial entrepreneur. For the last 15 years I have opened businesses based on doing what I love and bringing it to people. Fourteen years ago I opened For The Love Of Dog Daycare and Spa in Glendale, which is a doggie daycare, retail and grooming facility. Ten years ago I opened Dog Savvy Boutique on Larimer Square with Robb Horen. Around that time I discovered Nia and once I began teaching, I knew this would be my next manifestation.
