A meeting to inform residents about the fate of a popular dog park in Evergreen and a protest against its potential closure — expected to attract hundreds — were canceled Thursday evening after weather .

The rally had been scheduled for 5 p.m., with a meeting hosted by Jefferson County Open Space officials following at 6 p.m. at the Buchanan Recreation Center in Evergreen.

Residents planned to show up en masse with their canine companions to protest a probable plan by county officials to close the 107-acre Elk Meadow dog park because of excessive dog waste left at the site and degradation of land and water at the heavily used facility.

The meeting has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. March 2 at the same location.
