Interview with Marnie Quinn, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
:I was a yoga and meditation practitioner while I was working in New York in the fashion industry. After leaving my very high pressure career, I had a lucid dream one night that I had opened a healing center in the building my grandfather built in 1951 in the Historic Westminster District to house his pharmacy, coining it Westminster’s Health Center. After that dream, I left New York, moved back home and started construction last February.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
:We are a place where everyone, no matter their background, feels safe and at home. We are a community of loving and nurturing people. We are a place of healing and connection. Our heart is really what separates us. Not only is the intention for what we offer heart-based, but each teacher is hired based on their heart-led teachings and the quality of nurturing they provide for the students. Everything we do is centered around being in service to our community, their growth, health and healing.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
:Meeting and connecting to my community every day. We have a lounge that people congregate in before and after classes. We offer tea and sell kombucha on tap, and shine potions to inspire people to stay longer and connect. I feel the most joy-filled when I see people talking and connecting after classes and workshops, building new friendships and hanging out for hours. I also love seeing people open up and transform. They become so much lighter and brighter and more joyful after committing to themselves, their health and having heart-based connections with the community.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
:Getting the word out that we are here.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
:My family has lived in this small neighborhood for more than 60 years. My family built this building in the early ’50s for health and healing. I wasn’t too interested in it as a kid because I wanted to live in the big city and work in fashion, but as I progressed in my life and career, I uncovered the desire in me to continue what my grandfather had started, and to really be in service to my community and others.
