
Rockies 3, Rangers 2, At Surprise Stadium
SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Rockies would like to bottle their performance Tuesday afternoon and serve it during the regular season. They received a solid start from left-hander and shutdown performances from Antonio Senzatela and Mike Dunn. Rockies pitchers had 12 strikeouts.
Colorado won the game in the ninth when drew a two-out walk and eventually scored on a throwing error by right fielder Jared Hoying.
For starters: Anderson gave up solo homer to Mike Napoli in the second, after which the Rangers loaded the bases with two singles and walk. Anderson bore down and threw an inside fastball that retired Carlos Gomez on a groundout.
“I like facing that, absolutely,” Anderson said of the bases loaded jam. “I think that is a good thing to start doing. That is really just competing at that point.”
Anderson allowed one run on three hits over 2 ⅔ innings.
Hits: The Rockies took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer by shortstop , his third homer of spring. … Defending National League batting champion went 3-for-3 with three opposite-field singles. …. Ian Desmond’s on-the-job training at first base continued Tuesday and he made his best play of spring. Shin-Soo Choo hit a chopper to third baseman Cristhian Adames, who threw wide of first base, but Desmond came off the bag and made a perfect swipe tag on Choo. … Senzatela pitched three innings of one-hit ball, striking out four.
Misses: Right-handed reliever was hurt by a walk in the seventh because it led to a run-scoring single by Stephen Lerud that tied the game, 2-2.
