While Denver metro area residents will enjoy high temperatures near 70 degrees with westerly wind gusts up to 29 mph Thursday, a red flag warning continues on the northeastern plains due to warm, dry conditions and blustery winds that create dangerous fire conditions.

A red flag warning will be in effect between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the plains with winds that will gust up to 40 mph, the National Weather Service in Boulder says.

In the foothills and mountains, wind gusts could top out at about 60 mph.

Friday’s forecast calls for another warm day with a high near 66 degrees under cloudy skies.

Expect slightly cooler temps on Saturday with a high in the mid-50s, the weather service says.

Sunday’s high is expected to be about 63 degrees and there’s a slight chance of rain Sunday evening.

The forecast for the beginning of the work week calls for highs Monday around 55 and 70 on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather service predicts.
