As it has done all season, Lakewood took the court in warm-ups honoring the late Mackenzie Forrest, a star senior guard on last season’s team who passed away in a car accident following the 2016 state tournament.

Forrest, who was the Tigers’ best player in their Great 8 run last year and was committed to play at Regis University, continued to influence the team during this season’s run to the title game.

The warm-ups feature the number 33 — Forrest’s number — emblazoned across the chest, with one of the threes forming an orange heart that alludes to a mantra Forrest lived by, “Hustle and heart set you apart.”

Coach Chris Poisson said before the state tournament that the 33 logo will be incorporated in some way on all future warm-ups for the Lakewood girls basketball program.
