Denver police are investigating after a fetus was found Sunday morning inside a container left in a trash bin in the city’s Lowry area.
The female fetus was discovered in a trash bin on the 8000 block of East 11th Avenue. Police initially described the fetus as a “newborn,” calling the case a “death investigation” and have released few details.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner says an autopsy was completed on the fetus and that cause and manner of death are pending investigation.
“Right now it’s a death investigation,” Christine Downs, a Denver police spokeswoman, said Tuesday morning. “It’s still pending the autopsy and toxicology report.”

Downs said she didn’t immediately have information on who found the fetus or the circumstances under which it was discovered.
Police say no charges have been filed in the case and investigators have not announced any arrests.
