Adams County authorities have identified the two men killed in a fiery, head-on crash Friday morning near the town of Byers.

William Linnebur, a 33-year-old from Aurora, and Jose Benitez-Soto, a 39-year-old from Brush, died in the collision on U.S. 36.

Television news helicopter images from the crash scene showed the severely mangled wreckage of a pickup truck. Authorities say the wreck also involved a tractor-trailer.

The Adams County Coroner’s Office, which released the men’s names, did not say which vehicles the victims were in.

The wreck sparked a grass fire, which was quickly extinguished. The crash happened about 8:45 a.m. Friday.

The Colorado State Patrol, which is investigating the crash, has not released details on the cause.
