The Denver metro area should be mostly sunny with clear skies this weekend, offering a chance to sun tan before clouds arrive next week.

The temperature in Denver reached 81 degrees for a high Saturday, which fell 1 degree shy of the record of 82 degrees that was set in 1907.

Colorado Springs broke the record, though, reaching 79 degrees at 2:29 p.m., surpassing the previous record of 78 degrees set in 1907, according to NWS. The day ended up with a high temperature of 80.

Boulder also reached 80 degrees, breaking the record of 77 also set in 1907.

Saturday night’s low should be in the mid to upper 40s.

The end of the weekend offers another chance to break a record as it should reach 80 degrees, close to the day’s record high of 81 degrees, NWS spokeswoman Natalie Sullivan said Saturday morning. The low should be in the low 40s at night.

Next week is filled with mostly cloudy and partly cloudy days offering up only a slight chance of rain, Sullivan said.

As you apply your sunscreen this weekend, keep in mind that NWS issued a red flag warning for northern Colorado starting around Fort Collins and spreading east along the Wyoming and Nebraska borders for Sunday from noon until 7 p.m. The agency also issued a fire weather watch for the Denver metro area up to Greeley and across the Eastern Plains during that same time period.
