Scary highway moment. A window was shot out on a man’s convertible BMW Feb. 17 while he was driving southbound on U.S. 85 about three miles north of Sedalia in Douglas County. The man had the car’s top down but a small rear window used to control airflow was partially rolled up. He heard a pop while driving and saw that window had been shattered. He estimated the damage at $800. An investigation indicated a small projectile — maybe a BB — caused the damage.
No winners. Police were dispatched to the Costco at 8686 Park Meadows Center Drive, Lone Tree, March 3 on reports three men threatened another man in the parking lot and kicked his car. The suspects were located in a nearby store. They said the driver nearly hit one of their sisters. When one man yelled at the driver, he responded, “I’m not blind,” indicating to them he did it on purpose. One of the suspect then kicked the driver’s Camaro, scuffing the bumper. The kicker was cited with disorderly conduct and the driver ticketed for careless driving.
Hot manure. Officials investigated a small. grass fire in an open field in the 9600 block of Roxborough Park Road, Douglas County, on Feb. 21. The staff from a neighboring horse ranch had been spreading manure and barn waste over the field. One of them is a smoker. Investigators believe a cigarette butt, buried under the waste, may have started the fire.
Need for speed. An unidentified driver was arrested after 1 a.m. March 3 near the Interstate 25 and Lincoln Avenue interchange in Lone Tree for engaging in a speed contest. The driver was going 111 mph in a 65 mph zone.
