Yes, Colorado’s roads, highways and bridges need repairs and improvements. The improvements likely will require an increase in taxes or fees. Locking in a fixed-dollar amount of the budget to go with the tax increase is just a curtain hiding the loophole. At minimum, an increased spending percentage of the previous state budget for road and highway improvements needs to be tied to any tax increase.

After previous dedicated taxes were approved by Colorado voters, legislators repeatedly redirected or found loopholes and allocated tax dollars to be spent in other areas.

Unless you want to approve a general tax increase, you should vote “no” on the proposed sales tax increase for road improvements.
