Police searching a Colorado Springs home for a car theft suspect found a body as well as the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside a room.

The incident unfolded at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, when officers were called to the 200 block of Longfellow Drive, according to the police department. The caller told police he had located his stolen vehicle in front of a home on Longfellow and had watched the suspect go into the home. Officers arrived, and a resident allowed them to search the home, police said.

“While searching the house, officers located an unidentified male that appeared to be deceased,” the blotter said.

Officers then found the suspect, who had barricaded himself in a room downstairs. The suspect refused to come out. A SWAT team was called to the scene, and the suspect eventually was taken into custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is taking the lead in the “death investigation,” police said.

Neither the car theft suspect or the deceased person were identified.
